Join us in an adventure as we explore our new woods and field orienteering course! Gain an essential understanding of the cardinal directions as we learn to read and use a compass in tandem with a map. We will become explorers as we immerse ourselves in the history of magnetic technology, and learn to accurately orient ourselves relative to objects in the landscape.
This class is a wonderful complement to schoolwork in geography, social studies, and science. We will use applied mathematics, magnetic science, as well as spatial and kinesthetic learning to find our way through an active orienteering course.
During Basic Orienteering, students will experiment with compasses, aerial photographs, and maps to discover local geography. Our challenging new orienteering course is a perfect opportunity to work on small group teamwork and leadership.
This class meets the following North Carolina Curriculum Standards: Social Studies - 3:4.01, 3:4.02, Science - 4:3.04, 5:2.06
