Insect Adventures

Examine the insects that hide along the banks of the Eno River and in the meadows and forests nearby. Discover the diversity of the insect world as we learn about insect lifecycles, habits, and habitats.

Insect life is a topic most kids can’t resist! This class gets children actively searching for insects of all kinds: under logs, in the air, within the grass, and everywhere else we can find them. This is a fun and active adventure. It challenges students’ observation skills and encourages their interest in science. This class can be adapted to focus on many different themes including metamorphosis, adaptations, homes and habitats, and classification.

The class includes:

  • Searching for insect life with sweepnets and magnifying glasses
  • Exploring the banks of the river to find insects that live underwater
  • Looking through trees, leaves, logs, and soil
  • Watching and learning about the lives of ants, ant lions, dragonflies, crickets, butterflies, beetles, bees and caterpillars
  • Insect Games and more!
