Organic Gardening

Dig into the soil of our garden beds to experience many basic skills and practices of organic gardening. Discover the properties of soil, investigate the lifecycles of plants, and learn the importance of diversity to a stable ecosystem. Gain hands on experience with composting and harvesting fresh from the garden.

This class is a wonderful complement to any elementary science curriculum. It is a hands on, discovery oriented experience that can add emphasis to classroom inquiries on soil science, ecology, and plant life.

The class includes:

  • Hands-on compost building demonstration
  • Harvesting, soil preparation and seed planting in the garden beds
  • Observation of producers, consumers and decomposers in their natural habitat
  • Smelling, touching, and tasting plants
  • Original games that invite students to explore and discover hidden parts of the garden.
