Imagine being able to feed yourself with tasty, nutritious plants not by forcing Nature’s hand, but simply by gathering what is already offered for free!
We invite you to join our nature guide, Gumby as he explores the wild edible and medicinal plants of our area. You will be embarking on this learning adventure together as you push the edges of your knowledge. Together, you will learn to make tinctures, salves and many other ways to harness the medicinal powers of wild herbs. You’ll learn to “read” plants and what they can tell us about our environment. There will also be opportunities to learn “plant crafts” like basket-weaving and natural cordage.
The new Plants Guild will meet on the third Saturday of each month, from 12:00 PM to 3:00 PM. The first meeting, January 16, 2010, will be held at West Point on the Eno Park, but with advance notice, this program will go mobile and explore other locations in this area. When the guild travels to an alternate location, Gumby will offer carpooling or caravan-ing from West Point Park if you arrive early.
Plants Guilders should bring a notebook, pencil, and a water bottle to each session. Optionally, you may want to bring a camera, a snack, pocket knife, field guides, backpack, and scotch tape.
Each session will cost $15 per participant. Please register on-line by Wednesday of the third week, so that we will know how many to expect for the Saturday Program.
Come join Gumby in his goal to learn about the plants of our area, and Stop to Smell (and eat) the Roses!
