Skills Camps

Schoolhouse of Wonder has been sharing the skills of wilderness survival and awareness with campers for many years. To meet the needs of different age groups we now offer a progression of camps, to provide an adequate challenge to those youth interested in improving their Earth Skills.

The later camps include further development of skills learned in earlier ones, i.e. pocket knives are used in all skills camps.

While it is not required for a camper to have completed an earlier camp to attend an advanced one, we do encourage signing up for the camp that best reflects campers’ interests and experience.

Earth Camp

The activities, stories, and songs learned at Earth Camp are centered around living more harmoniously with the Earth and with each other. By looking at the elements of Earth, Air, Water, and Fire we will establish connections to all of the wonderful things that the Earth gives us. Developing respect for the natural world will be at the heart of this fun-filled adventure in the forest.

Earth Camp for ages 7-11 ends at 5pm and has a staff:camper ratio of 1:7.

Activities may include:

  • Campfire cooking
  • A day-long “Walkabout” adventure in the forest
  • Big woods games
  • Community living
  • Camp crafts such as fire safety and knife safety
  • Whittling
